Snooker: Darryl Hill into Last-16 at world championships

Mercer back in action tomorrow in team event

Isle of Man snooker player, Darryl Hill has progressed to the last-16 of the knockout stages at the IBSF World Championships in Doha.

In a cagey affair in his latest match, Hill went on to take a 4-2 win over fellow former professional player Ahmed Saif of Qatar who had topped the group in which Hill's fellow Manx competitor Dollin Mercer was competing in.

In the knockout tie, Hill edged in front by taking the first three frames before Saif rallied back to take the following two to get back into the contest.

However, Manxman Hill remain composed in what would be the decisive sixth frame to win by a score of 83-47 to secure overall victory.

He'll face another Qatari competitor in Ali Abolaidli in the last-16 at 4pm UK time today (7pm local time).

Elsewhere, Mercer - after a tough group stage - will be back in action in the team event tomorrow (9 November) where he and Hill face India, China and Qatar 3.
