Squash: Isle of Man contests European championships in Bucharest

Manx side win final game during challenging competition in Romania

The Isle of Man women's squash team took victory in their final match of challenging international competition during their latest off-Island venture last month.

The four-strong Manx squad of Dasa Brynjolffssen, Hannah Dixon, Beth Jones and Clare Townsend recently contest the ESF European Team Division 3 Squash Championships in Bucharest, Romania from 17-20 April.

A tough opening two days of competition in the group stage saw the Isle of Man suffer defeat at the hands of Italy, Bulgaria and Croatia in a tightly-contested Pool D.

After that, despite a 3-0 loss to Turkey on day three (19 April) in their first 9th-16th place play-off match, the Island players rallied back to finish the event on a high the day after.

The Isle of Man produced a commanding display to take a 3-0 win over Gibraltar with Dixon, Brynjolffssen and Jones all defeating their respective opposition.

Overall winners of the competition were Ireland whilst Ukraine finished runners-up - as a result, both have been promoted to the Division 2 setup.
