Tennis: 2023 IoM championship winners crowned

Drewry and Faragher take singles titles in Douglas

This year's Isle of Man Tennis Championships winners have been crowned after the 2023 finals were held at the weekend.

Following nine days of play the final stages were held on the clay courts at Douglas Lawn Tennis Club - in the men's singles final Sean Drewry came up against his doubles partner, Orry Farnworth.

Drewry's experience paid off as he overcame Farnworth 6-0 6-2 - elsewhere, Neri Gricevicius beat Andrew Maxwell in the men's singles consolation match.

Meanwhile, the women's singles final saw 22-time champion Karen Faragher face off against Anna Kirk who was competing in the last two for the first time.

Whilst Faragher took the first set (6-3), Kirk fought back to take the second (7-6) forcing a third-set champions tie-break - despite a spirited display from Kirk, Faragher did enough to take the win in the final set by a 10-8 scoreline.

In the men's doubles final, Drewry and Farnworth came up against strong opposition in Gricevicius and Rob Comber who pushed their opponents well but couldn't prevent Drewry and Farnworth winning the tie 6-2 6-4.

Elsewhere, Faragher teamed up with Rosie Manuja in the women's pairs final up against Kirk and Aalish Kelly - Kirk and Kelly, contesting their third consecutive women's doubles final and having lost out in the last two, went better to win in 2023 in a tense affair with Kirk and Kelly this time victorious 6-4 3-6 (10-6).

The other final showdown of the weekend was in the mixed doubles final with the pairing of Kirk and Drewry beating the defending champions Faragher and Marc Chinn 6-2 7-5.
