Glen Helen glen has more to offer

Published online at 01/03/2010 17:34:08

Visitors to one of the Island's most attractive glens have an elevated new vantage point to admire it from.

One of the orginal Victorian paths at Glen Helen has been restored, offering walks along the higher reaches of the glen and more extensive views.

The Department of Agriculture has installed boardwalks up the south bank of the glen, along a path from the Rhenass waterfall high above the River Neb.

Chairman of the Forestry Division, Brenda Cannell, says the opening of the path will mean maginificent trees such as the huge beech are within easy reach.

The glen was constructed in the 1860s by a consortium of Manx businessmen interested in arboriculture.

It was named after the Helen of Greek mythology to reflect its beauty.
