Minister assesses funding changes for UK movies

Minister for Economic Development, Allan Bell, MHK

The Isle of Man's minister for economic development says he isn't worried by the United Kingdom government's decision to cut back on its support for films.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport is abolishing the UK Film Council, which had an annual budget of £15m to invest in British movies.

However, Allan Bell told John Moss movies would still be made in Britain, and the Island's film industry would continue to prosper (play audio file):

The UK government has made it clear funding for movies will continue through other bodies.

The UK Film Council was founded in 2000 and employed 75 people.
