Know The Origin

If you have any arts news you’d like to share with us, do drop us a line at Spotlight@manxradio.com and don’t forget, if you miss anything on today’s show, you can listen again at manxradio.com where you’ll also find the Spotlight blog which, as always, has details of all of our guests and events featured on today’s show.

I really hope you managed to catch the first installment of Manx Radio’s new 6-part summer series -Inspired- where Michelle Jamieson put the focus on the National Development Strategy for Culture and the Arts on the Isle of Man which was released after it received approval at Tynwald.
The Isle of Man Arts Council and Culture Vannin joined forces to design and develop this 10-year strategy which aims to inspire, invest in and promote cultural and creative practices on the island and further afield with a view to growing our national sense of identity and our exposure to culture and the arts - two factors fundamental to our wellbeing and overall quality of life. Emma Callin of the Arts Council and Breesha Maddrell of Culture Vannin presented the new strategy in a discussion group at the DED’s most recent Creative Industries meetup - it was a really inspiring evening and unfortunately we can only bring you some of the highlights but you can find the Strategy on the Arts Council's website and do get in touch with both Culture Vannin and the Isle of Man Arts Council to share your thoughts and ideas because, as Breesha Maddrell said in her introduction, this strategy is for the whole community.

Noa Bakehouse hosted a screening of ‘The True Cost’, a film about unethical practices in the clothing industry which was released in the Spring. Co-founder of ethical clothes brand 'Know The Origin’ Charlotte Instone visited from London to host a discussion about issues highlighted in the film and we managed to catch her for a quick chat.

And we hear a fab new track, 'Trust Made a Great Companion’ from Ramsey musician Jamys Woolley, recorded and mixed by Gyp at Ballagroove Studios.

We’ll be back next Wednesday at 5.30 but do keep in touch with us through Spotlight@manxradio.com and you can listen again on demand on the Manx Radio website.
