#MRWomenToday listen again: Parent Aware police workshops; Paula Radcliffe, flu jabs and more

On the programme today: - 

- we were joined in the studio by Sergeant Graham Corran and PC Mike Griffiths, who came by to tell us about the #ParentsAware workshops happening next week. They will see Police and Education working together to try and assist parents in identifying the dangers around drugs, alcohol and Child Sexual Exploitation. 

The dates for the next sessions are :
Tuesday 17th at King Williams College                           6:30pm till 8:30pm
Wednesday 18th Castletown Town Hall                          6:30pm till 8:30pm
Thursday 19th Ballakermeen High School.                      6:30pm till 8:30pm

- we also spoke with Dr Radha Modgil, GP and media medic and world champion marathon runner Paula Radcliffe who, as an asthmatic, is on the 'at risk' list for flu and so is part of a campaign to encourage people to be sure to get their jabs; especially important now as the news today is filled with concerns about a possible epidemic on the way...

Free flu vaccine is recommended for certain people who are most ‘at risk’ to complications if they get flu infection: Pregnant women, People with any of the following long-term conditions: a heart problem, a chest complaint or breathing difficulties, including bronchitis, emphysema or severe asthma, a kidney disease lowered immunity due to disease or treatment (for example steroid medication or cancer treatment), liver disease, had a stroke or a transient ischaemic attack (TIA), diabetes, a neurological condition, e.g. multiple sclerosis (MS), cerebral palsy or learning disability, a problem with the spleen, e.g. sickle cell disease, or have had their spleen removed, are seriously overweight (BMI >40). 

Also : People aged 65 years or over, People living in a residential or nursing home, Individuals who are the main carer of an older or disabled person, Individuals who area household contact of an immunocompromised person, Frontline health or social care worker.

The flu vaccine is available from some pharmacies and some GPs privately for those individuals who don’t fall into the ‘at risk’ of complication groups.  Some work places also arrange for their staff to receive the vaccine privately at work.

- and we spoke with some of the exhibitors and organisers of today's Crafts and Art Demonstration Day at the Laxey Working Men's Institute; the event is going on until 9pm, so still time to get down there and pick up some early Christmas gifts, learn a new craft or chance winning Yarny Grainne's gorgeous sheep.
