#MRWomenToday listen again: Valerie Miller, Theresa Lee and Laura Cretney

We were joined in the studio by Valerie Miller and Theresa Clark Lee, who came in to tell us all about the Time Bank IOM – which is now more ‘timely’ than ever in its objective of “building community, helping develop connections between all ages and abilities and encouraging everyone to come together.”

To find out more about the initiative and how YOU can be a part of building community and connections, visit their Facebook here, or be sure to attend the launch party on March 3rd at the Laxey Pavillion.

- we looked at a story about the female author who challenged the book industry to only publish women writers in 2018 and asked what you thought – is this a good way to give opportunities to women writers? Or is this rewriting the history books (and fiction and every other kind of book) and unfairly side lining male authors? Listeners and guests alike had some very interesting comments on the subject!

- and we caught up with Laura Cretney from PinkJinn, who told us her latest project in Iraq with artist Hannah Rose Thomas (pictured left) and how “art can be used as a powerful tool for advocacy and a way to give a voice to the voiceless”; Hannah’s visit to and work in Iraq, with women who had endured appalling treatment at the hands of ISIL, was made possible largely due to the generosity of the Manx public, including Laura’s own grandmother who raised several thousand pounds from knitting hundreds of bobble hats!

To find out more about Laura’s work in the Middle East and to check out Hannah’s incredible art project, visit the blog here and Hannah’s website and Instagram account, which has lots of pictures of her incredible portraits and stories of the women in them

There will also be a full version of the interview with Laura on our podcast page later this evening.

If you missed any part of today’s programme, you can listen again at this link for the next 7 days. Tomorrow, Beth is on the Conister Rock with Aileen Gelling, hope you can join her from 2pm.
