Manks Concert in memory of Sophia Morrison - Dooraght / Clare’s Jig – Two Manx dances performed by Ny Fennee
Two modern Manx dances performed by one of the Isle of Man’s leading traditional dance grous, Ny Fennee.
Dooraght is composed by the group themselves and Clare’s Jig was composed by Clare King, also of Ny Fennee.
This was presented as a part of an event in honour of the leading figure in the survival and revival of traditional Manx culture; Sophia Morrison.
Morrison saw that the key factor in the survival of Manx culture was the involvement of the young. It is therefore very fitting to have young dancers performing new Manx dances composed in the traditional style – it is exactly as Morrison would have wished it.
This is a part of the “Manks Concert” marking the anniversary of the death of Sophia Morrison.
Held at the Peel Centenary Centre on the 14th of January 2017, it marked the 100th anniversary of the death of this great figure of Manx cultural history.
