AGENDA 18 FEB

An MHK suggested having a national holiday on election days in a bid to boost dwindling voter turnout.

Lawrie Hooper said it might have encouraged those with busy working lives to engage with the democratic process, and could’ve raise the profile of elections. In response to Mr Hooper the Policy and Reform Minister Chris Thomas gave the proposal a thumbs down, and cited other ongoing reforms as more sensible measures to improve election.

But Mr Hooper’s idea certainly prompted a reaction on social media on how best to boost turnout -we hear from him first on the programme.

Port Erin commissioners have voted to cut the village authority's membership from nine to seven - we speak to Phil Crellin, who's been a commissioner for thirty years, and brought the proposal forward.

And Middle MHK Bill Shimmins gives his view over the government's changes to interested party status.
