<br />
We visit the prehistory gallery at the Manx Museum to speak to Curator of Archaeology for Manx National Heritage Allison Fox about how the Island differs from other areas.<br />
<br />
And take a trip to the stone circle at Meayll Hill to find out more about the Neolithic burial monument.<br />
<br />
We also find out more about an Iron Age fort at Balladoole in the South of the Island.<br />
<br />

And find out more about the Manx crosses around the Island from Curator of Field Archaeology Andrew Johnson.<br />
<br />
We also take a trip to Balladoole in the South of the Island, the site of a Viking ship burial.</p>

We take a trip to Laxey to speak to local historian Andrew Scarffe about the mining industry in the village, and find out more about the part the Great Laxey Wheel played from Curator of Social History for Manx National Heritage Matthew Richardson.<br />
<br />
We also speak to Curator of Social History Yvonne Cresswell about the notable Manx-born artists featured in the national art collection, and find out more about a temporary exhibition showcasing the talents of Archibald Knox.<br />

We visit the Grove Museum in Ramsey to find out more about Victorian life for a wealthy merchant family from Curator of Social History Matthew Richardson.<br />

And take a trip to Molly Corrooin&rsquo;s Cottage in Onchan to hear about basic life in the late 1800s from Keith Watterson and Keren Corkill of the Friends of Onchan&rsquo;s Heritage.</p>

<p>We&rsquo;ll hear from Curator of Natural History for Manx National Heritage Laura McCoy about the Island&rsquo;s wildlife past and present, and the diversity of the landscape.</p>

<p>We&rsquo;ll also take a trip to the Maughold Brooghs to find out about the land in the care of the Manx Museum and National Trust, and how it&rsquo;s managed, from Properties Manager Shaun Murphy.</p>

<p>And a visiting specialist in management planning for nature conservation, Mike Alexander, discusses the progress that&rsquo;s been made on the Calf of Man, and the value of conservation in areas like it.</p>

<p>We&rsquo;ll find out more about Manx Museum Library and Archives from MNH Archivist Wendy Thirkettle, and how some of the material help can be accessed online via the iMuseum from Collections Information Manager Jude Dicken.</p>

<p>And we also visit the Public Record Office to speak to Public Records Officer and Angela Skitt and Records and Archives Officer Eleanor Williams about the documents they hold.<br />

We speak to a man who&rsquo;s been involved in the exploration of the site since the 1980s, Field Archaeologist for Manx National Heritage Andrew Johnson.<br />
<br />
He explains the transformation of the site from a place of religious worship to the battlements we see today.<br />

      <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This week on Exploring Island Heritage we find out more about a medieval manuscript which is considered the first book documenting Manx history, the Chronicles of Mann.<br />
<br />
And visit the 18th century yacht, Peggy, which is currently the subject of a conservation project, to find out more about the boat itself and the process of saving it.</p>

<br />
On this week&rsquo;s programme we&rsquo;re travelling south to the Island&rsquo;s national folk museum.</p>

<p>2018 marks the 80th year since Harry Kelly cottage in the Cregneash village was opened to the public by the Manx Museum and National Trust, making it the first open-air folk museum in the British Isles.</p>

<p>This week, we visit Rushen Abbey to learn a little about the history of the site, and how the site has been tailored to encourage families to visit from Curator of Archaeology Allison Fox.</p>

<p>And we take a trip to Castletown to speak to Objects Conservator Christopher Weeks about a project to conserve and return a unique object from the Island&rsquo;s maritime history to the Nautical Museum.</p>
