Manx Music Day on Manx Radio

On today’s programme we are warming up for Manx Music Day on Manx Radio this Friday - we speak to Arron Clague, creator of the Manx Music Chart, we talk Cliff Top concerts with Groudle Glen Railway and we have some exciting snippets from Yn Chruinnaght The Celtic Gathering.

Give us a shout  if you’d like to share any creative events  and happenings with us, you can email me at Spotlight@manxradio.com or you can message the Manx Radio Facebook page.

This Friday, Manx Radio celebrates Manx Music Day with Culture Vannin and Year of Our Island! Tune in this Friday for a Manx Music Takeover on every programme throughout the day! Muso Arron Clague, founder of the first ever Manx Music Chart developed a way for you to enjoy Manx Music, some of which will be familiar, others you may not have come across before!

Groudle Glen Railway’s Cliff Top Concerts are back on August the 12th. With something for everyone come rain or shine, Trevor Noll tells us how this unusual idea for al fresco entertainment first came about and what local acts we can look forward to seeing this year.

Tomorrow evening at 6 o’clock head to Noa Bakehouse for the next Creative Industries Public Meeting with the Department for Enterprise and Year of Our Island. As ever the meeting is open to anyone interested in creative goings on, networking and hatching plans with like-minded people, get yourself down there and take part.

And you may have heard in the news and on Women Today that The Cabinet Office, Culture Vannin and the Arts Council have worked together to prepare a survey which they hope will provide a wealth of valuable information to help shape the Island’s arts and cultural offering and the allocation of resources. The deadline for completing the survey has been extended to August the 18th so you still have more than 3 weeks to use this chance to make your thoughts known - just follow this link. Next week we’ll be asking Chris Thomas for his word on this.

Finally, we take a look back at some highlights from this year’s Yn Chruinnaght Celtic Gathering. Celebrating Yn Chruinnaght’s 40 year anniversary, this year’s festival showcased celtic music from near and far in a variety of forms, from pure trad to Gaelic rap - I spoke to Festival Committee Member Grainne Joughin.

Join me again next Wednesday at half past five where we’ll be speaking to Chris Thomas, and Bruno Cavellec returns for part two of our chat about his current exhibition. In the meantime, listen again on demand, as a podcast or via the very excellent manx radio app. Have a lovely creative week!
