The Starling

You’re in for a treat on Spotlight tonight, as we enjoy some festive delights from friends of the show, and we chat to textiles artist Quinn Shipton while she crafts away, cleverly hand-stitching her beautiful, soft dolls and mermaids.

If you’d like to be a guest on the show, or if you have anything art-related to tell us about, do drop us a line at Spotlight@manxradio.com and if you miss anything today, head to manxradio.com to listen again on demand where you’ll also find our blog, full of links to places you can find out more about our guests today!

Illustrator and textiles artist Quinn Shipton is our first guest today, we met Quinn up at the Keird Collective pop-up shop, where she was busy stitching tails onto mermaids.

And you still have tomorrow, Friday and Saturday to make those last-minute Christmas purchases at the Keird Collective pop-up shop at the Village Walk in Onchan!

Now it’s time for those festive treats, brought to you by friends of spotlight old and new. Howard Caine joins us first with ‘Santa Got Stuck’, a poem by Bethany De Leigh Runciman.

Next, we welcome back our very first guest on Spotlight, thrice-nominated for BBC Folk Musician of the Year Award, it’s harmonica virtuoso Will Pound with his rather unique take on Jingle Bells.

Our dear friend Ruth Keggin is next to sing a song around the Christmas tree, here she is with Oikyn Yns Bethlehem.

The lovely Kizzy Crawford who we met at Cyclefest in the summer, is up now with her song ‘The Starling’ which she was inspired to write during the snow.

Snow is good for more than building snowmen isn’t it? Writer and photographer Janet Lees was also inspired to put pen to paper when those snowflakes began to fall.

And we leave you tonight with the breathtaking sound of the Tallis Consort, with Ola Gjeilo’s Northern Lights.

Spotlight will be back on Christmas Eve with some of our highlights from the programme this year, between 7 and 8pm.
