AT YOUR SERVICE - 7 MAY 2023

30 minutes | Sunday, 7 May 2023

At the Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla in Westminster Abbey, music - chosen by the King - played a huge part in the ceremony. On today's programme we feature the new Coronation Anthem composed by Sir Andrew - Lord Lloyd-Webber - 'Make a Joyful Noise Unto The Lord' and 'Alleluia, O Sing Praises Unto Our God' also composed specially for the Coronation, by Debbie Wiseman, using words from Psalm 47 and sung by The Ascension Choir - the first Gospel Choir to sing at a Coronation ceremony.
And we have an Island 'first' - the Choir of King Williams College, Castletown, were the only choir on the Island to be granted a licence to record the anthem specially commissioned by the Royal School of Church Music - 'The Mountains Shall Bring Peace' was commissioned by the RSCM and composed by Joanna Forbes L'Estrange. It's performed on today's programme by a choir of 40 - students and members of choirs Island-wide, including His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor Sir John and Lady Lorimer.
Musical Director is Head of Music at King Williams College, Steve Daykin, the organist is Stuart Corrie, and the music was recorded mixed and mastered by Gyp Buggane of Ballagroove Studios.

Before all the regalia and symbols of earthly power were presented to the new King, he was given a specially-bound copy of the Bible - the words spoken as it was placed into his hands, the oath he took whilst holding it, and the challenging words then spoken by the Archbishop of Canterbury directly to the King and Queen are a powerful reminder that this ceremony has always been - and still is - a time for deep prayer.
The giving of the Bible is also a link to an important event in St John's Methodist Church on Saturday 13 May when Paul Keeys of the international Bible-teaching ministry 'Walk ThroughThe Bible' will be presenting a day to put 'The Old Testament in a Nutshell'
