AT YOUR SERVICE - 23 AUGUST 2020

30 minutes | Sunday, 23 August 2020

Nineteen individual gardens, created in the grounds of the Cathedral in Peel, tell in wonderfully imaginative ways, the development of Christianity and culture on the Island from the 6th to the 21st century. Gardeners, conservationists and lovers of wildlife will find endless interest here - there's history to explore, legends to learn - and a labyrinth to walk - and for the children, there are woodlands specially planted for them, and a dinosaur trail. But possibly strongest is the peaceful, prayerful atmosphere that draws people of all faiths and none, back to the gardens again and again. AT YOUR SERVICE explores some of the more unusual gardens in the company of the creator of the Cathedral Garden project - Dean of the Cathedral, the Very Reverend Nigel Godfrey, and artist and scientist Henry Uniacke who has done (and continues to do) a tremendous amount of voluntary work in the gardens. If you're going to explore the gardens for yourself, why not go on Saturday 29th August when there'll be tea and cakes (and mini golf!) in the Cathedral from 2pm - 5pm, as well as the new 'Christianity 2000' exhibition. And in the gardens .... can you find the Manx Radio FM frequency? Yes- it really IS there!! And as usual, there's music too. If you would like to choose your favourite hymn or sacred song to be included in a future edition of At Your Service, do please email the details to me - judithley@manxradio.com
