Cumbria's Bob Jackson was to take the winners laurel wreath as he raced to his first Southern 100 Solo Championship on the McAdoo Kawasaki after 20-years of trying, having scored his maiden race win on the Billown Course back in 1977 on a 350cc Yamaha.
It was also the fortieth anniversary of the Southern 100 Road Races.
1964 was the 10th year of the Southern 100 Road Races, as Leighton Buzzard rider David Williams became only the fourth rider to achieve a 'double' at the increasingly popular races on the 4.25-mile Billown Course first raced on in 1955.
It was also the first year that the fledgling Manx Radio broadcast live from the 'southside' venue, with Jack Quayle bringing the action into the Islands homes - which the 'Nation's Station' continues to do some 56 years later, as broadcast partner to the 'friendly races' as the Southern 100 has become known over the years.
