AT YOUR SERVICE - 12 SEPTEMBER 2021

At Your Service

Sunday, 12 September 2021 - 30 minutes

This year marks the 20th anniversary of 9/11 - a series of airline hijackings and suicide attacks on targets in the United States - over 3,000 people were killed in New York, when two planes were flown into the North and South Towers of the World Trade Centre; 184 people died when another plane hit the Pentagon, and a further 40 people died in Pennsylvania,  where another hijacked plane crashed in a field after passengers attempted to retake control -  that plane was believed to be heading to the Capitol building in Washington DC.  In New York, more than 400 police and firefighters were killed.    As we listen to the thoughts of one person who was  there, it's clear the passing of 20 years has done little to dull the painful memories.
Anglican Priest Rev'd Dr Glynn Jones is on a short-term loan until the end of November,  to assist the local ministry team, caring for the churches in North and South Ramsey, Maughold, The Dhoon and Bride, whilst they are without their own resident Vicar.
But in his home Diocese of Carlisle, Rev'd Glynn is 'Chaplain to the Chaplains' - in conversation today, we find out exactly what that means.
And lastly, are you ready to Ride and Stride? It's a new charity fundraiser, coming to the Island next Saturday 18 September - Rosemary Clarke has all the information, and you can download maps, a list of churches on the Island, and  sponsor forms by going to the Diocesan website - https://www.sodorandman.im
Hymns this week are 'Brother, Sister, let me serve you' and 'Praise my soul, the King of Heaven'
The piano music is Einuadi's Nefeli, played by Gareth Deakin who - in addition to being a pianist - is also Musical Director of Sheeanyn Millish choir.
There's also our regular Notice Board, with events for the coming week
Notice Board items and your hymn choices for future programmes can all be emailed to me - judithley@manxradio.com
