At Your Service

Sunday, 21 June 2020 - 29 minutes

On AT YOUR SERVICE today we've a bit of nostalgia for Father's Day, then Rev'd Alex Brown reflects on some verses from St Matthew's Gospel that are really appropriate, now that the Island has achieved local elimination of Covid-19,  and we can now stop social distancing and move out of lockdown.

But Alex's specially-written reflection called "Whispers" asks some tough questions .....
What have we done with all the lessons we learned over the last three months?
Are we going back to our old way of life - or can we do so much better?

Rev'd Alex has an interesting music choice, too - How Great Is Our God is one of the most popular worship songs ever, but its composer Chris Tomlin recorded a new version in 2012 with the familiar words sung in 8 different languages - listen and see how many you recognise - and be prepared for some surprises, as we celebrate in song the greatness of God, in every corner of the world!

For many people, lockdown was a difficult and lonely time, separating them from friends and family, but one 12-year-old girl soon realised that lockdown was, for her, a gift from God.
She is Lula Brown, and she tells the moving story of her personal battle with anxiety - which began a long time before Covid-19 was ever mentioned.

Music this week includes the popular hymn 'Dear Lord and Father of Mankind' and a prayerful chant by Margaret Rizza - 'Come, Be With Me'

And we end with poetry from Anne Clarke - her choice this week is The Loom of Time

Your hymn requests are very welcome - please do get in touch and tell me what you'd like to hear - my email address is judithley@manxradio.com
