Bob Carswell delivers a weekly programme of great Manx Gaelic broadcasting and entertainment. This week's excerpt from William Gell's 1906 poem 'Mannin Veg Veen : A Poetical Sketch of the Isle of Man' brings us to Bemahague, the house which had been refurbished in 1904 to be the official residence of the Lieutenant-Governor. William Gell mentions how the residence changed as the seat of Government moved from Castletown to Douglas and refers to some of the Lieutenant-Governors, including Lord Raglan, who took the post in 1902, and who was forced to leave under a cloud in 1918 - though Gell has seen only his affable side by the time of the poem. Our story in Manx is of one man's fight against the hidden, dark forces that really control the world - leaving behind only signs of their presence in the woods.
