Manx language archives - wax cylinder recordings - Holy Communion in Manx read by John Nelson

Uploaded on 1 Feb 2017

Phonograph recording of John Nelson reading Holy Communion in Manx, 8th November 1906.

This recording was made on an Edison Phonograph machine purchased by Yn Çheshaght Ghailckagh for the purpose of recording speakers of the Manx language. This is one of six recordings that came to The Manx Museum from Douglas Library in 1955. The recordings were digitised with the help of The British Library in 2016. The sound quality is typical of a wax cylinder recording of this age, it is best listened to on good quality speakers or headphones.
