Manks Concert in memory of Sophia Morrison - 'Purt Cubbley' – Manx dancing performed by Ny Fennee
A traditional Manx couples dance, collected by Mona Douglas at the start of the 20th Century.
The dance is performed by two young dancers from Ny Fennee, one of the Isle of Man’s leading dance groups, based in the North of the Island.
This was presented as a part of an event in honour of the leading figure in the survival and revival of traditional Manx culture; Sophia Morrison.
Morrison saw that the key factor in the survival of Manx culture was the involvement of the young. It is therefore very fitting to have young dancers performing new Manx dances composed in the traditional style – it is exactly as Morrison would have wished it.
This is a part of the “Manks Concert” marking the anniversary of the death of Sophia Morrison.
Held at the Peel Centenary Centre on the 14th of January 2017, it marked the 100th anniversary of the death of this great figure of Manx cultural history.
