Manks Concert in memory of Sophia Morrison - 'Sophia Morrison' A poem by Cushag, performed by Wyn Callister
A poem by one of the Isle of Man’s greatest poets, written in memory of perhaps the most important figure of Manx cultural history.
Cushag (real name, Josephine Kermode) was a great friend of Sophia Morrison, and they worked together on many projects, including the first ever Manx dialect theatre plays. Kermode would send her work to Morrison for her comments up until her untimely death in 1917.
The poem is recited by Wyn Callister, a former leading member of the Michael Players RBV.
This is a part of the “Manks Concert” marking the anniversary of the death of Sophia Morrison.
Held at the Peel Centenary Centre on the 14th of January 2017, it marked the 100th anniversary of the death of this great figure of Manx cultural history.
