Manx Customs and Traditions - Hop-tu-naa: A traditional Manx celebration in Maughold

Published on 16 Mar 2017

Hop-tu-naa is the oldest continuously-existing tradition in the Isle of Man, and today it forms a central part of the Manx calendar.

Celebrated on the 31st of October, Hop-tu-naa is the Manx equivalent of Halloween, with some very important differences, including the carving of "moots" (turnips) and the coming together as a community to dance, sings songs and have fun.

In this short film, we visit the hop-tu-naa celebrations in Maughold.
