Manx Gaelic Features - Skeddan Jiarg daunsey ayns y Chorn
A Manx language film about Manx dancing, the traditional Manx dance group, Skeddan Jiarg, and their trip to the Lowender Peran Festival in Cornwall in November 2017.
Manx dancing is one of the most exciting and distinctive forms of traditional culture in the Isle of Man. It is thriving today thanks to many dance groups, such as Skeddan Jiarg.
As well as performing all over the Island, Skeddan Jiarg sometimes perform in other parts of the British Isles, including the Lowender Peran Festival in Cornwall.
It was whilst in Cornwall, in November 2017, that Culture Vannin took the opportunity to find out more about what Manx dancing is, why they do it, and what it adds to the cultural life of the Isle of Man and beyond.
Skeddan Jiarg is a traditional Manx dance group based in Peel. Other groups are based elsewhere on the Isle of Man, including Ny Fennee, Perree Band and the Manx Folk Dance Society.
