Island sector needs bright young things

A global data science firm which has recently opened an office in Peel, says the sector must work to reverse the exodus of returning graduates and skilled people in their 20s from the Isle of Man.

Business intelligence software firm Cyberscience Corporation aims to expand capability, after being awarded a contract to provide bespoke financial reporting for the Manx government.

The firm's Cyberquery tool is helping produce swift, straightforward analysis of financial data, for Treasury and other departments, in a joint project with government IT specialists.  

Firms in the data science sector require qualified, specialist technical staff - an ICT skills shortage in the Island is being addressed by a series of public and private initiatives, but persists.

ICT and eGaming are frequently quoted in official job figures, as sectors with the most unfilled vacancies.
