Plans submitted for 'pavement café' in Douglas

Roots in the City wants to install outdoor seating

A planning application has been submitted to add outdoor seating to a Douglas coffee shop.

Roots in the City wants to install a seating area it describes as a 'pavement café', with an awning, at its Nelson House based outlet on Prospect Hill in Douglas.

If approved, the seating would be directly opposite the Thirsty Pigeon pub's own outside area.

The plans (24/00084/B) mark the next expansion for the business, which originated 'by the sea' in Peel.

The application says the outdoor cafe area would ‘extend along the length of Roots Nelson Street elevation and out to the centre line of the longitudinal paving as per the other pavement cafes in central Douglas’.

Due to the steepness of the lane, Roots would install a decking to level it, and it would not be fixed to the building so it could be removed if necessary.

This enclosure would be built from painted timber from top to bottom and would be at least 1m high at all points to comply with the Douglas Pavement Café Guidelines.
