Call for more support in schools for students with post-viral fatigue

ME Support hoping to work with DESC

An Island charity hopes to be able to offer more support in schools for pupils with post-viral fatigue.

ME Support Isle of Man says the illness, if not managed properly, could lead to further complications later in life.

Juan Corlett from the charity says managing symptoms in school can be challenging:

Awareness of post-viral conditions, such as ME/ Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, has increased in recent years due to the coverage surrounding Long Covid.

In recent weeks GP referrals opened for the Isle of Man's own ME/ CFS and Long Covid service, following a lengthy campaign.

There's frustration, however, at the lack of provision for children within that service, with the threshold for treatment being 18 years of age.

'We changed my schedule to one lesson a day, and that's how I was able to manage.'

Georgia Foxton suffered from post-viral fatigue during her A-levels, after contracting Epstein Barr Virus:

Manx Radio has contacted the Department of Education, Sport and Culture for comment.
