Cancelled cardiology appointments will be reinstated says Manx Care

And you won't have to wait until 2024 says CEO

Cardiology patients who had their appointments cancelled at short notice will have them reinstated.

That’s the pledge from Manx Care which has apologised after an administration error saw people told they’d have to wait until this time next year to see a doctor.

The health body initially blamed ‘capacity issues’ for having to cancel a number of clinics.

Chief Executive Teresa Cope has told Manx Radio these issues were caused by the departure of a doctor who was assisting in cardiology and who was overseeing two clinics a week.

It meant appointments on a Monday and Wednesday needed to be cancelled until a new doctor could take them over; that medical professional is due to start in a matter of weeks.

However, cardiology clinics up to the end of 2023 were called off by mistake and patients waiting to be seen were sent new appointments for the end of 2024 instead.

This led to concern from the public with one man telling Manx Radio he’d been left unable to work after repeated cancellations – you can find his story HERE.

“We understand that the cancellations will have caused concern for many of our patients and their families - we apologise for this and hope that patients can be reassured that their appointments will be reinstated, or rearranged for those affected this week.” – Manx Care

Manx Care is now reinstating the clinics which were cancelled – the Patient Information Centre is contacting each affected patient to ensure they can still attend their appointments.

Ms Cope says she’s ‘really sorry’ to the patients who were impacted by this:
