20-year-old's actions left female PC needing anti-viral medication
A Douglas man who spat in a police officer’s mouth will appear in court again next week.
Brogan Keith Misselbrook’s actions meant the female PC had to take anti-viral medication following the incident.
At Douglas Courthouse the 20-year-old, of Murrays Road, admitted assaulting her and another PC who he kicked in the thigh; he also accepted he’d resisted the officers in the execution of their duty.
They'd stopped Misselbrook in Andreas just after 3.30am on 17 August after reports that he’d stolen a bag of crisps and a hot drink from EVF, on Peel Road in Douglas, around two hours earlier.
As they were trying to arrest him he broke free and lashed out - officers had to use the emergency button to call for back-up and resorted to using PAVA incapacitant spray.
At Police Headquarters he told police he’d been drinking all day and didn’t remember taking the items without paying; he also entered a guilty plea to the theft matter.
Social enquiry and psychiatric reports will be compiled before Misselbrook is sentenced – he’ll next appear in court on 12 October.
Update: At Douglas Courthouse on 12 October magistrates were told a psychiatric report will no longer be sought - a sentencing date has now been set for 23 November.
