Douglas man ordered to keep the peace after frightening paramedic

Provoking behaviour charge withdrawn

A Douglas man has been bound over to keep the peace after threatening to harm himself in front of a paramedic.

Christopher McEvoy of James Street accepted the binding over order in the sum of £500, while a charge of provoking behaviour was withdrawn.

Paramedics were dispatched to the 59-year-old's home in February after he reported feeling in crisis.

Once the ambulance arrived, Mr McEvoy said he was going into the kitchen to get a knife because he wanted to harm himself in front of the paramedic.

The court heard the paramedic felt frightened, and called the police.

Mr McEvoy accepted that his behaviour amounted to a breach of the peace, while Magistrates told him he must be of good behaviour for the next 12 months.
