Gas tariffs to remain unchanged

Follows latest six-month review

Gas tariffs are expected to remain unchanged for the rest of this year following the latest twice yearly review by the regulator CURA.

Under the current Gas tariff fixing regulations the public gas supplier can't fix tariffs that are likely to result in its permitted revenue being exceeded in the period under review.

The latest mid-year assessment was confined to considering the impact of commodity prices and consumer demand on the allowed returns for Isle of Man Energy.

The company is required to provide a range of information requested by the Authority supporting its proposed tariff structure. The key components of the review take into account the average commodity cost throughout the year and the amount of units used.

It was acknowledged that whilst commodity prices had fallen demand was significantly lower than forecast in February. Therefore the two variances largely cancelled each other out.

The next tariff review will be in November, with any changes required implemented in January.
