Health service sees unseasonal increases at A&E during MGP

But Island not in isolation as data in UK also shows surges

Unseasonal increases in A&E attendances during the Manx Grand Prix made it difficult to accommodate motorsport ‘traumas’ alongside ‘business as usual’.

Manx Care says the Isle of Man was not in isolation, however, with similar demand being experienced across the NHS in the UK.

It adds significant planning was required across the service in anticipation of surges in road traffic incidents and demand on general health services.

Extra ambulance personnel, the Air Ambulance Service and nursing staff in the Emergency Department were deployed.

Additional blood stocks were also requested from the NHS Blood and Transplant Authority.
