'Inequality' of support for medical students studying off-Island 

DHSC minister says 'disparity' will be considered as part of Manx Care 'summit'

Medical students who are studying off-Island could be subject to ‘inequality’ when it comes to government support.

That’s the view of a Douglas North MHK who’s asked when a review on bursaries will be carried out.

David Ashford says people who have to go to the United Kingdom to study are being disadvantaged.

In the House of Keys this week he highlighted how radiology students already there receive more support as do some medical trainees who only study on-Island.

In response the Health and Social Care Minister Lawrie Hooper admitted there is a ‘disparity’ but says a review of bursaries will coincide with a Workforce Education Summit which will take place by the end of 2023.

This is intended to review training needs across all health and social care groups and establish skills gaps and look at recruitment and bursary incentives.

And he says the Department of Education, Sport and Culture is also involved:
