MHK calls for re-think of campervan proposals

An MHK is calling for a re-think of proposals which would make it illegal to park large vehicles over a certain length or height on speed restricted roads.

The plans which aren't officially in a consultation period have received significant backlash with more than 3,000 signatures on a petition to scrap the idea.

The Arbory, Castletown and Malew member has since written to the chief minister with a number of concerns and says he's received one of the biggest responses to any subject since becoming a politician.

Tim Glover thinks the move won't just affect residents but also the tourist sector, and potentially even the TT:

There are questions over how it would be policed, when it would come into effect and if the proposals could even come into force in their current form.

Speaking on Manx Radio's Mannin Line, the former Infrastructure Minister Chris Thomas said they're not set in stone, but said the idea came from a string of meetings with both the DOI and local authorities about how to use new powers within the department:
