Minimum wage needs further hike

Should be heightened in line with cost of living

An MHK claims the Island's minimum wage should be higher than the UK equivalent.

In Tynwald this week, Economic Development Minister, Laurence Skelly, said the rate would not be allowed to fall below the UK level.

Since last month, employees aged 25 and over here have received a minimum £7.50 per hour - a seven per cent increase - in line with changes across.

However, Middle member, Bill Shimmins, believes locals should receive more.
