Negotiations with RCN in 'deadlock' as nurses prepare to strike

"We can't go on like this"

Negotiations with the Royal College of Nursing are in 'deadlock', as nurses prepare to take the first of three days of planned strike action.

Dispute remains over pay and staffing levels with nurses said to be in 'dread' over the prospect of working understaffed wards.

Paul Moore is Manx Care's Executive Director of Nursing - he says he's 'deeply conflicted' over the industrial action which starts tomorrow (14 September).

He wants to see nurses receive a fair pay award but thinks striking comes at the detriment to patients:

Nurses will walk out between 8am and 8pm with numerous services being cancelled and others operating a 'Christmas Day' style schedule.

Further action is planned for the 18 and 19 October.
