New laws to replace 'out of date' sexual offences legislation by end of year?

DHA Minister responds to criticism from High Bailiff 

Government is aiming to bring in the Sexual Offences and Obscene Publications Act by the end of this year.

That’s from the home affairs minister who says other legislation has taken priority so far.

It follows criticism from the high bailiff who had to sentence a man - who’d sent explicit content to two people he believed were children – under powers designed to combat nuisance phone calls.

Speaking during sentencing, at Douglas Courthouse, James Brooks said it meant members of the public were ‘much less well protected’ than they could be.
