Nurses vote in favour of striking

80% agree to industrial action

Nurses in the Isle of Man have voted overwhelmingly in favour of taking strike action following failed pay negotiations.

Eighty-per-cent of the turnout said they'd be willing to breach their employment contracts in a bid for better wages.

A similar number of those surveyed, 73 per cent, also turned down Manx Care's offer of a £1,000 one-off payment for the past financial year.

The ballot, which had a 46 per cent turnout, was carried out by the Royal College of Nursing union, with the paper about strike action conducted by the RCN's independent scrutineer, Civica.

The body's North West Regional Board will now meet with the Isle of Man branch to discuss their next steps.
