Office of Fair Trading issues warning over 'hit and run' rogue traders

Reports of cold callers attempting to sell goods and services

Rogue traders, from off Island, are using ‘hit and run’ tactics to try and dupe Manx residents.

The Office of Fair Trading says they travel to the Island for just a few days at a time in the hope that enforcement agencies will not catch up with them.

Cold calling – where people show up unannounced to sell goods or services - has been illegal here since 2016 but some elderly and vulnerable residents are still being targeted.

The OFT says it’s had a number of reports of cold callers in recent weeks.

Chair John Wannenburgh says residents could be put in difficult financial positions:

The Office of Fair Trading is urging anyone approached by a cold caller not to engage with them.

Anyone who feels they are being pestered is urged to contact the police of Trading Standards for advice.
