High Bailiff describes incident as 'unpleasant'
A Kirk Michael man has been ordered to work with the Isle of Man Probation Service after assaulting his wife in a drunken argument.
Mark Anthony Pass, who is currently residing at Ramsey Park Hotel, started throwing punches at her on 28 April after she took his car keys away due to his level of intoxication.
At Douglas Courthouse the 58-year-old pleaded guilty to common assault – the court heard the woman had fallen as a result of his actions, bumping her head and spraining her finger.
A probation officer told the court Pass had been with his wife for 43 years but had been struggling with alcohol issues for several years.
“He does not wish to repeat this behaviour,” she told the court: “He wishes to formally apologise today.”
Pass’ advocate said his client couldn’t remember assaulting the woman describing the incident as ‘deeply regrettable’ and adding: “I do hope there is the chance of reconciliation.”
Describing the incident as ‘unpleasant’ High Bailiff Jayne Hughes imposed as 12-month probation order and made Pass pay prosecution costs of £125.
