Serious casualties in bus crash

Emergency services are dealing with a serious road accident involving a No 2 bus on the Southern 100 course south of Castletown.

A fleet of ambulances and several fire engines were sent to the scene just after 3.30pm (Sat 5 Oct). There are understood to be a number of  casualties with very serious injuries.

The incident happened on Fisher's Hill south of the Castletown by-pass, at Ballakaighan Corner.

Police say due to the number of casualties involved, members of the public should not attend Noble's hospital unless in an absolute emergency, or visit in-patients.

Police say the road will be closed indefinitely while the incident is dealt with.

Unconfirmed reports say the bus hit another vehicle head on.

Manx Radio reporter John Moss at the scene described a saloon car with its roof cut off, surrounded by foam from a fire tender.

A traffic diversion is in place, with vehicles heading south being diverted via Great Meadow to Cross Four Ways and onwards towards Ballabeg, with a diversion operating in reverse for traffic heading north.

The number to call for anyone concerned about relatives or others who may have been travelling on that route is: 01624 697315.
