'Street dealer' jailed after being caught with shower cap full of drugs

20-year-old sent to prison for 4 years and 7 months

A Ramsey man – described in court as a ‘street dealer’ – has been jailed for almost five years after being caught with ketamine and cocaine.

Keith Andrew Deleonio Reyes was arrested, just after midnight, on Granville Street in Douglas on 29 August last year, after he was seen passing packages to other people.

Four bags of white powder, and £624 in cash, was recovered at the scene; a strip search, at Police Headquarters, revealed he was smuggling 48 bags of drugs in a shower cap attached to his genitals.

Officers found more drugs after searching his home on Gladstone Mews – phone data also showed messages organising drug deals and exchanging banking information.

In total Reyes was caught possessing 21.5 grams of the Class B substance ketamine - which had a street value of between £863 and £1,079 – and nine grams of the Class A drug cocaine which was valued at £929.

The 20-year-old, who has no previous convictions, later pleaded guilty to being unlawfully concerned in the supply of cocaine and ketamine between 16 June and 29 August.

He also admitted possession of both drugs with intent to supply and possession of criminal property.

During sentencing at Douglas Courthouse today (16 June) Reyes’ advocate told the court his client had moved to the Isle of Man as an 11-year-old and had struggled to adapt.

Describing how his desire to fit in with others had led him to fall in with a bad crowd adding: “He’s still a very, very young man. He’s jeopardised absolutely everything.”

Jailing Reyes for four years and seven months Deemster Graeme Cook told him: “Ketamine is an extremely dangerous drug.”
