Teen appears in court over recorded attack at party

14-year-old pleads not guilty to theft and assault

A 14 year old boy has appeared in court over an attack at a party which was recorded and uploaded to social media.

The boy, who can’t be identified because of his age, appeared via a live video link before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas courthouse.

He pleaded not guilty to theft and assault causing actual bodily harm.

Prosecution advocate Hazel Carroon told the court a woman at a party in Mona Drive in Douglas called the boy and two friends at around 11pm on 2 January.

The hearing was told the trio went to the party and made a beeline for their victim.

They subjected the man to a flurry of punches and kicks, leaving him with minor head injuries, before stealing his iPhone 6S.

The court heard another partygoer videoed the incident before uploading the footage to Snapchat.

There was no bail application, and the boy was remanded in custody until his next appearance on 20 July.
