Twenty questions tabled for HoK sitting

Assisted dying, warm spaces and onshore wind farms feature

The Assisted Dying Bill is set to receive its second reading to the House of Keys today.

But that's not the only thing up for discussion.

There are 20 questions tabled.

Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse has once again taken the top spot for the most put forward but he's trailed closely by Douglas Central and Douglas North MHKs Chris Thomas and David Ashford.

Mr Moorhouse's questions centre on financial contributions to the 'warm spaces' initiative, the risks to nature and whether this will form part of the decision to install onshore wind farms, and some questions to do with arguably the most divisive topic on the order paper - the Assisted Dying Bill.

Ramsey MHK Alex Allinson is expected to give that particular proposal its second reading in the House of Keys, following question time, as it moves a step closer to potentially becoming law.

If it's carried it will be followed by Onchan MHK Rob Callister's plea to set up a new committee which would oversee the next stages of the bill.

Meanwhile, Douglas North MHK John Wannenburgh wants to know what due diligence checks were carried out on Cube - after government severed ties with the company over failure to fulfil contractual requirements.

Mr Ashford wants to know what discussions have taken place with airlines around increasing connectivity.

And Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Tim Glover will ask the chair of Manx Utilities what compensation is available to people who own land or run businesses near the two preferred locations for a wind farm.

You can listen to the full sitting via Manx Radio DAB, on our AM1368 frequency or by clicking HERE.
