Unemployment figure falls to just over 600 people

Rate now stands 1.4 per cent

Unemployment on the Island has fallen.

At the end of last month 607 people were out of work - a drop of 144 since April.

It means the unemployment rate stands at 1.4 per cent.

The figure is calculated by the number of people signed up for jobseekers allowance.

Meanwhile the International Labour Organisation estimates 1,052 people on the Island are without a job -  amounting to an unemployment rate of 2.5 per cent.

The ILO measure includes not only those who claiming jobseekers but those who aren't registered and may be looking for work.

More than 1,000 job vacancies were listed at the Job Centre in May - an increase of 277 from April.

728 remained at the end of the month - 59 per cent of which were full time positions.
