Cav backed on return to cycling

Manxman expected to extend TDD stay

Mark Cavendish has the full backing of his team's race director, as he comes back from illness and injury.

He had a torrid 2018, which featured some bad crashes and a long time out with a recurrence of the Epstein-Barr virus he's suffered from.

But Rolf Aldag says Cavendish will be back with Team Dimension Data in 2019, and would only have returned if he still thought he could compete at the top.

The 33-year-old Manxman got back in the saddle here on the Isle of Man about 10 days ago.

Dimension Data are said to have renewed Cavendish for one more year.

They've already announced an extension for Mark Renshaw, and are soon expected to confirm Bernhard Eisel and Cavendish are staying on for another year as well.
