Ramsey aim to keep top spot as Prenton visit

Manx side currently lead Lancs/Cheshire Division Three

Ramsey currently lead the way in Lancs/Cheshire Division Three and will aim to keep their spot for another week at least when Prenton visit the Mooragh Park this Saturday.

The Tranmere outfit have struggled so far this season with just one win from four and nothing at all gained on the road.

Their win, however, was just a fortnight ago against near neighbours Parkonians who Ramsey beat last week.

Stand off Mason Tyler-Hall kicked 12 points off the tee as his team fought back to win 31-17.

Ramsey trailed Parkonians too last week before easing away in the closing stages after skipper Henry Swithinbank grabbed the bonus point try with less than five to play.

While squad changes are possible in any position this week, the big change will be at stand off with Ramsey missing their lucky charm Dan Bonwick.

Fintan Cummins seems likely to deputise and while he may be short on match fitness he has one hundred and forty three league appearances to his name and won’t be short on experience.

Mark Oldfield may return to the back row after being unable to travel last week and Eddie Lord appears to be fully rehabilitated, putting in a huge shift in the second row last Saturday on his return from injury.

Ramsey’s closest rivals, Old Bedians, Ellesmere Port and Oldershaw all have tough games this week.

Bedians and Oldershaw play each other while Ellesmere face the jokers at Liverpool University who are far from out of touch with the top.

A bonus point win for Ramsey may just keep them on top for another week or two.

Ramsey, though, have a free week on 3 November and the chasing pack may just catch them.

Kick off at the Mooragh Park is 1.30pm.
