Rugby: No joy for Douglas at Winnington Park

Nomads beat Western Vikings to claim second in Manx Shield

Report by Dave Christian:

Douglas’ quest for additional points in Regional 2 North West came to naught at Winnington Park where they went down 43-23.

Sam McCord, Si Hoddinott and Brendan Kelly all crossed for Douglas tries however the elusive fourth try didn’t arrive and the remainder of their points came from Luke Hyland’s trusty boot which kicked two penalties and a conversion.

Elsewhere in the league Altrincham Kersal beat Whitchurch and nudged Douglas from eighth place to ninth.

Nomads beat Vikings to claim second place in Manx Shield

Southern Nomads took second place in the Shield with a 32-26 win against Western Vikings at a windy Ballakilley Park.

Vikings raced into a 19-0 lead with tries from Ed Knight, Tom Collister and Harry Corrin plus two conversions from Harry Goodwin.

Nomads then started chipping away at the lead and tries from Tony Quinn, George Callister (2) and Matt Gorry got them in front and two long range scores from Sean Christian and Harry Corrin made the game safe.

Tom Davies bagged a late try for Vikings and Harry Goodwin’s conversion secures two bonus points for Vikings.
