TT racer suffered ‘non-survivable injuries’ in Supertwin crash

Inquest into death of Raul Torras Martinez opened

A Spanish motorcycle racer who died during this year’s TT Races suffered ‘non-survivable injuries’ after crashing in the first Supertwin race.

The inquest into the death of Raul Torras Martinez was opened at Douglas Courthouse today (16 June).

The court heard the 46-year-old, from Sant Hilari Sacalm, had suffered multiple injuries during the racing accident, on 6 June, between Orrisdale Road and Ballaugh Alpine – he was on the third and final lap of the race.

Coroner of Inquests James Brooks said a postmortem had been carried out and confirmed investigations into the police officer’s death were continuing.

Releasing his body so that funeral arrangements can take place Coroner Brooks offered his condolences to the TT rider’s family and adjourned the inquest to a date to be set.

The Manx Motor Cycle Club has confirmed Mr Torras' funeral will take place on Wednesday, 21 June on the Isle of Man.

In a statement it adds: "An incredibly popular member of the paddock family, Raul will be taken on a final lap of the TT Mountain Course.

“A hearse bearing his coffin will leave the TT Grandstand at 12 noon returning to Douglas Borough Crematorium at 1.15pm where his funeral will be held.”
