Jon Joughin
Jon Joughin
Jon Joughin is an independent candidate and this is the third time he's stood to be Douglas East's MHK.
He was first voted into the House in the 2015 by-election, but lost his seat in the General Election the following year.
Currently the Mayor of Douglas, he's confirmed he won't be standing in the local authority elections in July to focus on his House of Keys campaign.
Jon is a retired postal officer and in his spare time enjoys old British bikes and rugby.
He has two children and a (bad!) black labrador called Barkley.
We asked each candidate to choose three priorities from the following issues or add their own:
Climate change, heritage, tourism, public transport, affordable housing, roads, mental health, education, falling birth rate, encouraging university students to return to the Island.
Jon chose climate change and affordable housing.
He also added the Covid pandemic, growing the economy, increasing our profile on the global stage, protecting front line services, creating a smaller and smarter government, and streamlining local government with a fairer rating system.
